It's hard to put Broken Flowers into any one particular movie category. While it has it's serious moments it's not quite a drama and while it's often funny it's hard to label it as just a comedy. I guess you could call it the perfect dromedy.
Jim Jarmusch very much follows the Wes Anderson style of writing/directing in which the story seems to just come naturally from the characters lives. Once you accept the characters as real people the rest of the movie just makes perfect sense. That's probably why Murray was cast as the movie's lead. Though it feels odd to say, when talking about the guy who made it big with movies like Ghostbusters, Meatballs and Caddyshack and as a regular on SNL, Murray has become the quintessential 'dromedy' actor (in no small part due to his association with Anderson), and once again he pulls it off perfectly. While Broken Flowers also has a terrific supporting cast, it is definitely Murray's portrayal of 'Don Johnston' (don't forget that 'T') that makes this movie as great as it is.
If you're not a big fan of movies like 'Rushmore' or 'The Royal Tenenbaums' then you'll probably find yourself drifting off to sleep while watching Flowers, but if you are then you'll probably love this movie as much or more; I just can't say why exactly.
About the only real drawback to the entire movie was it's resolution, which while I didn't really like at the time, I'm beginning to feel actually fit the movie better than the one I had envisioned.
